"Travellers Menorca" is the perfect guide introducing one of the
most unspoilt islands in the Mediterranean. The local population
support the control of resort development and the woodlands and
fields of its hilly rural interior remain largely untouched.
Peaceful holiday resorts line the south coast of Menorca and
sleepy fishing villages are dotted along Menorca's rockier
northern shore. The highlights include many prehistoric remains,
caves, unspoilt coves and bays, which are a feature of the
island, along with wind-buffeted cliffs and picturesque fishing
villages. Monte Toro, the highest point of the island offers
wonderful views. The Fiesta of San Juan de Ciutadella, June 19,
has been wildly celebrated throughout many centuries. Menorca
benefits from being a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with large parts
of the island protected as areas of special nature interest. The
green park and gardens of Es Freginal in the capital Mao are
particularly popular during the summer jazz festival. Menorca's
interesting 18th-century Xoriguer Gin Distillery is worth a
visit. It has direct flights from 42 UK and Ireland airports. |
